When did shouting replace reasoned debate ? Or more accurately, when was the last time you saw two people NOT shouting at each other on television when trying to prove their point-of-view was more valid than the other guy.
Not for years….
Just over there

The hosts on a talking-head show on CNBC is falling all over Sponge Bob. Very strange thing to happen….. apparently you can now get your “cultural brownie points” by mentioning Sponge Bob… though I’m not sure where the idea that it isn’t violent is coming from…. have they ever watched it ? Someone is always getting hurt – Sponge Bob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Crab, etc.
Of course it’s not like they have a “Kenny”….
Getting presentations ready can be an interesting exercise…
Someone whose writings I was introduced to while a freshman in college. Not someone I think about every day but influential none the less.
Stopped at a computer store in Concord, NH (After spending an hour in Best Buy NOT buying a Playstations 2 (Now that the price has dropped to almost reasonable amounts it was very tempting ) and not buying a new car radio) that I’d never been in before…. that actually sells Macintosh related items.
I picked up an iMic for my iBook…. and I’ve now dug up an old microphone (pre-Plaintalk) that someone in the Knoxville office gave me (along with a couple dead Powerbook 100′s I merged into a working PB 100 and a Mac Classic II), un-opened in it’s box. The date on the box ? 1990. Seems to work though I
don’t have any software to test it with other than something I just grabbed from Versiontracker.
Not sure what I’m going to do with it… once I use it to copy some tapes I made a few years ago (non-commercial) so I can transfer them to CD eventually. 4×60 minutes.
I also gazed semi-lustfully at an Airport card… the base station seemed a bit pricey.
Now that it is starting to stay warm enough… I’m going through the annual end-of-spring ritual. Contemplating the purchase of a motorcycle.
It doesn’t usually get much further than thinking about it but two years ago I got as far as deciding what motorcycle I would get if I actually got one, a BMW 1100RT. I couldn’t afford it then and now… who knows. Is there any value in a used motorcycle ? A new one is more than I’ve ever paid for a car.
Well…. the Star Wars new movie hype is in full swing. All the local media outlets are spewing forth Star Wars movie mania madness…. guess they can’t resist the free time fillers for their psuedo-news broadcasts. But do they have to sound so excited about it when they haven’t seen it yet and probably won’t go when it actually comes out ?
An NBC bigwig made an appearance on a CNBC talking head show and stated that the cable networks don’t matter and that the shows on cable that get so much press are getting ratings so low that they would get cancelled on a real network.
Ha ! That’s not exactly an unbiased comment ! Especially given the real difference between cable and the broadcast networks is coverage, not quality.
That would describe this weekend… the things I didn’t do Saturday didn’t get done Sunday due to rain…. but at least I made a nice potato soup for dinner.
[Watching a Buffy re-run on F/X - The Season 4 classic Hush]
Superman references on Buffy ? Hmmm….
makes a sort of twisted sense:
I should really head to bed….. in a minute…..
Had some really interesting things to say but they seem to have dribbled away into the internet. Darn.
I find that if I go to a Chinese or other Asian style restaurant that it doesn’t feel right unless I’m eating with chopsticks. I find similar issues when working with computers. An operating system or application ahs to have the right feeling or it feels lacking…
Whoa!
Dave Winer/Userland went and doubled cloud space on radio.userland.com to thank everyone for their patience while they dealt with outages last week.
Some time around lunch today, radio.userland.com came back to life! Yeah Dave & Co. !!!!
Hopefully they’ll let us know what they plan on doing to avoid this kind of outage in the future. I’m sure there are all sorts of clever things they can do.
