Notes

Current

My fan fiction is a static version of my old Radio Userland setup. (Or it will be once I finish moving it over.)

Archive Plans

Need to figure out how to arrange my fics when moving them over from my old site. (This is for a single user archive, not something multi-user)

Simplicity is the key here.

Random thoughts and notes as I proceed. Just spewing thoughts… :

Archive requirements

Stories should be organized into categories. (Most archiving software and CMS’s have categories and tags. Not sure of the technical difference) – different levels/priorities.

Minimum -

  • Based on fandom (BtVS,Stargate, etc)
  • Characters (Buffy, Faith, Giles, Dawn, Sam Carter, Janet Frasier, Hermione, Harry Potter, etc.)
  • Character pairing (Buffy/Willow, Harry/Luna, etc.) and type of pairing (slash, femslash, het, gen, etc)
  • Fic length – drabble (100 words), ficlet (100-1000 words?), short story (1K+ words in a single part.), multi-chapter fic, multi-storie series.
  • Status/grouping – completed, in-progress, ideas (mostly snippets), future fics (planned for future – might be parts completed), experiments (good, bad, ugly)
  • Some kind of rating system (require login or have a warning for certain levels/ratings?)

Page design:

Each fic will have a header (disclaimer, smmary, etc.), header optional for each chapter or book in a multipart fic. (standard template of some sort)

Footer for each fic page

Notes for each fic/chapter

Reviews/comments for each part? Login required? Or just WP comment approval process?

Login required to view unfinished parts of a fic?

A multipart fic would have a TOC – divided into Book – Chapter sections

A multi-fic series would have multiple stories in its TOC.

Other:

I don’t want a full fledged search system — unless it’s built on top of the CMS (Wordpress) so I don’t have to do a lot of work.

Need some kind of security design for access to individual story parts.

Need to get SOMETHING in place by Christmas. Basic archive?

A Wordpress plugin or ? Might cover the things I want security wise.
